Alternative investments have been a core business for SYZ since its foundation. In 2018, the Group launched SYZ Capital, which offers clients-qualified investors the opportunity to co-invest in private markets along with the Syz Family. It covers illiquid alternative investments such as direct private equity, thematic and multi-manager funds.
“We are delighted to be winning this award. SYZ has always believed in the value of alternative investment strategies as a tool for greater portfolio diversification and risk-adjusted returns”, says Marc Syz, CEO of SYZ Capital. “At heart, the Syz family and SYZ Group are first and foremost entrepreneurs and investors. While private markets, such as private equity, real estate and other illiquid assets have traditionally been the preserve of institutional investors or the largest UHNWI, SYZ Capital’s mission is to democratise access to these assets for all qualified private clients.”
SYZ’s experienced alternative investments team manages more than 10% of the Group’s AUM and in 2018, saw increased interest in its liquid alternative uncorrelated strategy. Structured and managed as a UCITS alternative fund, the strategy delivers risk-adjusted performance in difficult markets.
In today’s environment, the prospect of Europe or the US following Japan into years of weak growth, low interest rates or even deflation means investors may have to potentially adjust to shorter, less extreme economic cycles. This ‘new normal’ environment demands a more flexible asset allocation. It also means adopting a longer-term approach to generating attractive income, creating value and delivering strong risk-adjusted portfolio returns.
The Swiss WealthBriefing Awards set organisations and individuals apart from their peers by focusing on the independence, integrity and genuine insight of each winner.
ClearView Financial Media’s CEO, and Publisher of WealthBriefing, Stephen Harris congratulated all winners at last night’s award ceremony: “The firms who triumphed in these awards are all worthy winners, and I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations. These awards were judged solely on the basis of entrants’ submissions and their response to a number of specific questions, which had to be answered focusing on the client experience, not quantitative performance metrics. That is a unique, and I believe, compelling feature. These awards recognise the very best operators in the private client industry, with ‘independence’, ‘integrity’ and ‘genuine insight’ the watchwords of the judging process - such that the awards truly reflect excellence in wealth management.”
